Fractional Security Director/Manager

The corporate and business environments of today have become increasingly difficult to manage with regard to risk. Both domestically and globally, corporate leaders are challenged with fulfilling their duty of care in ensuring worker safety and security in work environments which are being exposed to risk factors that have become progressively more complex and severe.  Effectively managing these environments is a fundamental requirement presenting new challenges for business leaders both in the present and in the future. Boards of Directors, shareholders, key stakeholders and the public all expect organizations to identify and anticipate these changing risks, and rely on them to set in place cohesive and effective strategies across all functional lines to mitigate or reduce those risks. In addition, it is expected that an organization’s  leadership will respond in a highly effective manner to events, and workplace issues that threaten the human and physical assets of the organization. Thus, a proactive strategy for risk mitigation ultimately creates an increase in profitability and is an organizational governance and moral responsibility of senior leadership and governing boards.

With greater frequency, business leaders are confronted with difficulty in hiring, supporting, and retaining high level professionals whose sole responsibility is to direct the security efforts required to effectively identify, plan for, and react to, a wide variety of potential threats to the security of personnel and assets. In many corporate settings it can prove challenging merely to strike the balance security professionals require to fulfill their daily duties to the organization while simultaneously seeking out the opportunities afforded through training, professional development, and continued education which are required to remain at the forefront of a rapidly changing and multi-faceted security industry.

As a result, organizations often lack the size, budget, and resources necessary to have a dedicated individual possessing the skills and competencies essential to directing an effective overall security program and providing proper protections for an organization. In these organizations lacking and unable to properly support a single position at the senior governance level responsible for crafting, influencing, and directing an organization-wide protection strategy the accountability is sometimes dispersed. It is not uncommon to find several managers in different departments within a company, often with potentially conflicting or competing security objectives (e.g., employee safety being primary to one, physical assets to another, etc.) tasked with identifying, crafting, and implementing the necessary protective programs. It is also not uncommon for these managers to lack the requisite experience and expertise needed to perform these tasks effectively and in the best interests of the organization.

The complexities associated with the security risks facing today’s corporate and business leaders creates a diverse matrix of interrelated threats, vulnerabilities, and impacts; therefore, the safeguards against these risks are interdependent. Some of the corporate interests exposed to these risks are listed below:
